Shiitake Seaweed Miso Soup

Having a set of white, healthy teeth is a dream for many. Pigments in food can cause teeth staining. By consciously choosing foods that can absorb pigments and consuming fewer color-staining beverages, you can prevent discoloration and maintain bright teeth.

Professor Bi Liangjia, an expert from the Department of Stomatology at the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University, explains that through the microscopic pores in tooth enamel, food pigments gradually adhere to the surface and interior of the teeth, causing them to deviate from their natural whiteness. This is also one of the main reasons why teeth staining is common in Western countries where coffee consumption is prevalent.

While food pigments can stain teeth, food can also whiten them. Lu Daping, a nutrition expert from the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University, recommends the following three foods: wood ear mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, and seaweed. Although these three foods are all considered "black foods," they have a remarkable effect of whitening teeth. This is because all three have a strong ability to absorb pigments. Not only do their own natural pigments not adhere to the teeth, but they also carry away surface and superficial pigments from the teeth.

Recommended recipes include wood ear mushrooms with horseradish, shiitake mushrooms with bok choy, and seaweed salad. You can choose according to your preference.
