Bread is a common food in our daily lives. With so many varieties on the market, how do you choose the one that is fresh and delicious?
1. Simple and Unadorned
Many breads come with chocolate, fruit, floss, etc., but the chocolate may contain trans fats, and the fruit is usually canned, not fresh. The quality of bread that is simple and unadorned, in its original form, is better.
2. Neat Appearance
Bread that is neatly shaped, evenly colored, and has a golden-brown crust is good. If there are bubbles on the crust, it means the fermentation time was insufficient, and such bread is often dry and hard, not soft and fluffy. If there are dark or white, uneven spots on the bread, it was likely burnt or underbaked.
3. Natural and Mild Aroma
Some breads have a strong, even pungent smell, which is usually due to a large amount of cheap artificial flavorings. It's best to choose bread with a mild, natural aroma and a subtle taste. Flavored dessert breads of various kinds are not recommended.
4. Doesn't Crumble and Is Springy
Good bread has a fine texture, a soft and delicate crumb, and good springiness. Bread with a coarse texture, large and uneven air holes, that crumbles easily, has poor springiness, or shrinks significantly when squeezed is generally made with rough craftsmanship and may also be related to the excessive use of additives.
However, for whole wheat or coarse grain breads, the texture is rougher and the color is darker than that of regular white bread, so they should be considered a separate case.
