Diabetes is a metabolic disease characterized by high blood sugar. High blood sugar is caused by defects in insulin secretion or impaired biological action of insulin, or both. The long-term high blood sugar in diabetes leads to chronic damage and dysfunction of various tissues, especially the eyes, kidneys, heart, blood vessels, and nerves. A reasonable diet is beneficial for patients with diabetes. The following foods should be consumed according to individual constitution.
1. Apple
A study in Finland showed that men who regularly ate apples and foods rich in quercetin had a 20% lower mortality rate from diabetes and heart disease compared to the general population. Other foods with high quercetin content include onions, tomatoes, green leafy vegetables, and berries.
2. Vinegar
Research has found that drinking two tablespoons of vinegar before a meal can significantly lower postprandial blood sugar levels.
3. Citrus fruits
Patients with diabetes have lower levels of vitamin C in their bodies. Although taking vitamin C supplements provides faster absorption, citrus fruits are a better choice due to their low fat and high fiber content.
4. High-fiber foods
A study by Texas State University found that increasing daily fiber intake from 24 grams to 50 grams can significantly lower blood sugar levels. You don't need to bother calculating the fiber content of different foods; just remember to eat more fruits, vegetables, legumes, brown rice, whole-wheat pasta, oatmeal, and bread.

5. Green leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale
They contain lutein, which can prevent diabetic eye complications. They are also an important source of fiber, B vitamins, iron, calcium, and vitamin C.
6. Dark chocolate
Tufts University found that dark chocolate can prevent or treat type 2 diabetes to some extent. In addition, it can significantly lower blood pressure, reduce bad cholesterol in the body, and improve vascular function.
7. Cinnamon
The U.S. Human Nutrition Research Center found that eating one tablespoon of cinnamon daily helps the body convert blood sugar into energy more effectively. After consuming cinnamon extract for 40 consecutive days, diabetic patients had less significant increases in blood sugar after meals, and their heart health also improved significantly.
8. Nuts
People who regularly eat nuts have a lower incidence of heart disease, which may be related to the trienol content in nuts. However, nuts are high in calories, so they should not be eaten in large quantities; two tablespoons a day is sufficient, and they can be sprinkled on cereal, yogurt, vegetables, or salads.
9. Legumes
Including chickpeas, kidney beans, and lentils, they are characterized by low fat, low calories, high fiber, and high protein, and can reduce the risk of diabetes and heart disease. The fiber in legumes can slow down the rate at which glucose enters the blood, preventing blood sugar spikes.

10. Steak
Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in beef fat can improve blood sugar metabolism and also has anti-cancer properties. In a trial conducted by Norwegian scientists, 180 volunteers consumed a few grams of CLA daily, and after one year, their average weight decreased by 9%.
11. Green tea
Studies show that chronic inflammation caused by high-fat diets, lack of exercise, and insufficient intake of fruits and vegetables increases the risk of heart disease and affects the body's ability to use blood sugar. Flavonoids, abundant in green tea and orange juice, are powerful "anti-inflammatory warriors".
12. Deep-sea fish
The probability of developing heart disease for diabetic patients is twice that of the general population. Therefore, eating foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as Alaskan salmon, sardines, and Pacific mackerel, can help lower levels of bad cholesterol and triglycerides in the body while increasing levels of good cholesterol.
