Eating Cucumbers: One a Day is Recommended
Cucumbers are a beauty-enhancing vegetable. Regular consumption or topical application can effectively combat skin aging, reduce wrinkles, and prevent cheilitis and angular stomatitis. Cucumbers are an excellent food for weight loss, but you must eat fresh cucumbers, not pickled ones, because the high salt content in pickled cucumbers can actually lead to weight gain.
Cucumbers have significant therapeutic properties. Cucumbers can lower blood sugar, and the cucurbitacin in them has anti-cancer effects. The *Compendium of Materia Medica* records that cucumbers have the effects of clearing heat, quenching thirst, promoting urination, and reducing swelling.
Cucumbers are suitable for the general population. The recommended daily intake is one cucumber (about 100 grams); excessive consumption is not advised. Cucumbers are low in vitamins, so other fruits and vegetables should be consumed regularly when eating cucumbers frequently. The tail of the cucumber contains more cucurbitacin, so do not discard the entire end. People with liver disease, cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal issues, or hypertension should not eat pickled cucumbers. The elderly with a weak spleen and stomach, abdominal pain and diarrhea, or a cough due to lung cold should eat cucumbers in moderation.
