Xinping is a Yi and Dai Autonomous County in Yunnan. There are 17 ethnic groups in the county, including Yi, Dai, Hani, Lahu, Hui, Bai, Miao, and Han. Their ethnic customs are unique and their specialties are attractive. The Dai people in Xinping are commonly known as the Huayao Dai people because they wrap a specially made colored woven cotton belt more than ten feet long into a flower waist about one foot wide to tie the skirt.
Xinping pickles are very famous in Yunnan. There are stalls selling Xinping pickles in almost every vegetable market in Kunming. Go to Dongsi Street on the weekend, which has recently become a New Year's Street and sells a lot of food. Seeing Xinping pickles sold, it looks delicious!
I bought some and made pickled cabbage fish home. The authentic Sichuan pickled cabbage fish uses kimchi, and I use pickles. The ingredients are some leftover vegetables from home. I have to eat them quickly, so I cook them together.
