How to Make Spicy Tofu Skin Salad: A Simple Guide

Tofu skin salad (凉拌千张丝) is a refreshing, protein-packed Chinese appetizer loved for its crunchy texture and zesty flavors. Here’s a basic recipe to get you started.

Ingredients:

- 200g dried tofu skin (soaked until soft, then thinly sliced into strips)

- 2 cloves garlic (minced)

- 1 red chili (sliced, optional)

- 2 tbsp soy sauce

- 1 tbsp rice vinegar

- 1 tsp sesame oil

- 1 tsp sugar

- 1 tbsp cilantro (chopped)

- 1 tsp roasted sesame seeds

Steps:

1. Prepare tofu skin: Rehydrate dried tofu skin in warm water for 20 minutes, then drain and cut into thin, uniform strips. Blanch in boiling water for 30 seconds, rinse under cold water, and drain well.

2. Make dressing: In a bowl, mix soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, sugar, minced garlic, and chili (if using) until the sugar dissolves.

3. Combine: Toss tofu skin strips with the dressing, ensuring even coating. Add cilantro and sesame seeds, then mix gently.

4. Rest & serve: Let the salad sit for 10 minutes to allow flavors to meld. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

Variations: Add shredded carrots, cucumber, or peanuts for extra crunch. For a spicy kick, mix in chili oil or Sichuan peppercorn. This versatile dish is perfect as a light snack or side dish, offering a delightful balance of savory, tangy, and aromatic notes. Enjoy!
