How to Make Cream Puffs: A Step-by-Step Guide

Cream puffs, with their delicate, hollow shells and creamy fillings, are a beloved French dessert. Making them at home is simpler than you might think! Here’s a classic recipe to guide you.

Ingredients: For the choux pastry: 1 cup water, ½ cup unsalted butter, 1 cup all-purpose flour, 4 large eggs, ¼ tsp salt, 1 tbsp sugar. For the cream: 1 cup heavy cream, ¼ cup powdered sugar, 1 tsp vanilla extract.

Steps:

1. Make the choux pastry: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). In a saucepan, bring water, butter, salt, and sugar to a boil. Remove from heat, stir in flour until a dough forms. Cook for 1 minute to dry it slightly.

2. Add eggs: Let the dough cool slightly. Beat eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy.

3. Bake: Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a baking lined with parchment paper. Bake for 20–25 minutes until puffed and golden. Turn off the oven, let them sit inside for 5 minutes to prevent collapsing.

4. Prepare the cream: Whip heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form.

5. Assemble: Let the puffs cool completely. Slice the tops, fill with cream using a piping bag, and replace the tops. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Enjoy your homemade cream puffs—they’re best eaten the same day!
