How to Stir-Fry Napa Cabbage: A Simple Guide

Stir-fried Napa cabbage, or "炝炒娃娃菜" in Chinese, is a quick, flavorful dish that highlights the vegetable’s natural sweetness and crispness. Here’s a simple yet delicious recipe to master it at home.

Ingredients:

- 1 medium Napa cabbage, cut into bite-sized pieces

- 2 cloves garlic, minced

- 1 dried red chili (optional, for heat)

- 1 tbsp cooking oil

- 1 tsp light soy sauce

- ½ tsp dark soy sauce (for color)

- ½ tsp sugar

- A pinch of salt

Steps:

1. Prep the cabbage: Wash and dry the cabbage thoroughly. Cut it into strips, keeping the stem and leaf parts separate for even cooking.

2. Heat the wok: Heat oil over medium-high fire until shimmering. Add dried chili (if using) and stir-fry until fragrant, then add minced garlic. Sauté for 10 seconds until golden—don’t burn it!

3. Stir-fry the cabbage: Toss in the cabbage stems first, stir-frying for 1 minute. Add the leaves and continue stirring for 2–3 minutes until they wilt slightly but remain crisp.

4. Season: Drizzle in light and dark soy sauce, then add sugar and salt. Stir quickly to coat everything evenly. Cook for another 30 seconds.

5. Serve: Transfer to a plate immediately. The dish is best enjoyed hot, with a perfect balance of savory, slightly sweet, and aromatic flavors.

This versatile dish pairs well with rice or noodles and can be customized with additions like mushrooms or tofu. Enjoy your homemade healthy meal!
