How to Make Braised Radish Shreddes with Shrimp

Braised radish shreds with shrimp is a comforting, umami-rich dish that’s simple to prepare. Here’s a step-by-step guide to mastering this flavorful recipe.

Ingredients: 300g fresh radishes, peeled and julienned; 200g shrimp, peeled and deveined; 2 cloves garlic, minced; 1 tbsp ginger, grated; 2 green onions, chopped; 1 tbsp soy sauce; 1 tsp oyster sauce; ½ tsp sugar; 1 cup water or broth; 1 tbsp cooking oil; salt and pepper to taste.

Instructions:

1. Prep the ingredients: Soak radish shreds in cold water for 10 minutes to remove bitterness, then drain. Pat shrimp dry and season lightly with salt.

2. Sauté the aromatics: Heat oil in a wok or deep pan over medium heat. Stir-fry garlic and ginger until fragrant (about 30 seconds).

3. Cook the shrimp: Add shrimp and stir-fry until they turn pink (1–2 minutes). Remove and set aside.

4. Braise the radish: Toss radish shreds into the pan, stir-fry for 2 minutes, then add water/broth, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sugar. Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook for 8–10 minutes until radishes are tender.

5. Combine and finish: Return shrimp to the pan, stir gently, and cook for 1 more minute. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper. Garnish with green onions before serving.

Tips: For extra umami, use dashi instead of water. Serve hot with steamed rice for a satisfying meal. This dish balances the radish’s natural sweetness with the shrimp’s savory flavor, creating a harmonious and comforting staple.
