Korean spicy chicken feet, or *Tteokbokki Chi Maeun Tak*, are a beloved street food snack, famous for their tender texture and fiery, sweet-and-savory flavor. Here’s a simple guide to making them at home.
Ingredients: 1 lb chicken feet (cleaned and trimmed), 2 tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes), 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp sugar, 3 cloves garlic (minced), 1 tbsp ginger (grated), 1 cup water, 1 tbsp cooking oil, and optional toppings like sesame seeds or green onions.
Steps:
1. Prepare the chicken feet: Wash thoroughly, trim nails, and blanch in boiling water for 3 minutes. Drain and set aside.
2. Make the sauce: Heat oil in a pan. Sauté garlic and ginger until fragrant. Add gochugaru, soy sauce, sugar, and water. Simmer for 2 minutes.
3. Cook the chicken feet: Add blanched chicken feet to the sauce. Stir well, cover, and simmer on low heat for 20–25 minutes, or until tender, occasionally flipping to coat evenly.
4. Thicken and serve: Uncover, increase heat slightly, and cook for 3–4 minutes until the sauce thickens. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Enjoy warm with rice or as a snack!
For extra kick, add a dash of rice vinegar or a spoonful of gochujang. Adjust spice levels by varying gochugaru. These addictive bites are perfect for gatherings or a spicy treat!
