How to Make Crispy Red Bean Rolls

Crispy red bean rolls are a delightful treat, combining flaky pastry with sweet red bean paste. Here’s a simple guide to making them at home.

Ingredients:

- 200g all-purpose flour

- 100g cold butter, cubed

- 100g red bean paste (store-bought or homemade)

- 2 tbsp sugar

- 1/2 tsp salt

- 50ml ice water

Steps:

1. Make the dough: Mix flour, sugar, and salt. Rub in cold butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Gradually add ice water, knead into a smooth dough, and chill for 30 minutes.

2. Prepare filling: Roll the dough into a rectangle (about 3mm thick). Spread red bean paste evenly, leaving a 1cm border.

3. Shape and roll: Fold one edge over the filling, then roll tightly like a log. Seal the edge with water and chill for 15 minutes to set.

4. Bake: Preheat the oven to 200°C. Slice the log into 1cm thick rounds. Place on a baking sheet, brush with egg wash, and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden.
