How to Make Colorful Wontons: A Step-by-Step Guide

Colorful wontons are not only delicious but also a feast for the eyes, adding joy to any meal. Here’s a simple guide to making them at home.

First, prepare the dough. Mix 200g of all-purpose flour with a pinch of salt. Gradually add 80ml of water and knead into a smooth dough. Let it rest for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, divide the dough into 3-4 equal portions. Add natural colorings: spinach juice for green, beetroot juice for pink, and turmeric powder for yellow. Knead each portion until the color is even.

Next, make the filling. Combine 200g of minced pork (or shrimp) with chopped water chestnuts, spring onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, and a dash of white pepper. Mix well.

Roll each colored dough into thin sheets, then cut into 8cm squares. Place a teaspoon of filling in the center, fold into a triangle, and seal the edges by pressing with a fork. For a flower shape, pinch the edges into small folds.

Boil the wontons in salted water for 3-5 minutes until they float. Serve in hot broth with a drizzle of chili oil or garnish with coriander.

These vibrant wontons are perfect for family gatherings or festive occasions. Experiment with colors and fillings to create your own unique recipe!
