How to Make a Matcha Latte: A Simple Guide

A matcha latte is a creamy, vibrant drink that blends earthy matcha with smooth steamed milk. Here’s an easy step-by-step guide to make it at home.

Ingredients:

- 1-2 teaspoons of high-quality matcha powder (ceremonial grade for milder flavor, culinary grade for stronger taste)

- 2 tablespoons of hot water (not boiling, around 70-80°C)

- 1 cup of steamed milk (dairy, oat, almond, or soy work well)

- Optional: Sweetener like honey, sugar, or maple syrup to taste.

Steps:

1. Prepare Matcha Paste: Sift the matcha powder into a small bowl to remove lumps. Add hot water and whisk vigorously in a “W” or “M” motion until smooth and frothy, about 15-20 seconds. For a richer flavor, add a tiny pinch of sugar and whisk again.

2. Steam the Milk: Heat your milk of choice in a saucepan or use a milk frother until it’s hot and creamy (around 65-70°C). For extra foam, froth it for 20-30 seconds.

3. Combine: Pour the steamed milk into a cup, holding back the foam with a spoon. Gently add the matcha paste on top, then stir lightly to blend. Spoon the foam over the surface for a layered look.

4. Customize: Sweeten to your preference if desired. For an iced version, chill the milk and matcha separately, then pour over ice.

Enjoy your homemade matcha latte—perfect for a cozy morning or afternoon pick-me-up!
