How to Make Steamed Pork Belly with Rice Powder

Steamed pork belly with rice powder is a beloved Chinese comfort food, known for its tender meat, fragrant rice coating, and rich flavor. Here’s a simple guide to making it at home.

Ingredients:

500g pork belly (cut into 1cm thick slices), 100g rice flour, 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp oyster sauce, 1 tsp sugar, 1 tsp five-spice powder, 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine, 2 tbsp light soy sauce, 1 tbsp sesame oil, and chopped scallions/cilantro for garnish.

Steps:

1. Marinate the pork: Rinse pork and pat dry. Mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, five-spice powder, Shaoxing wine, and light soy sauce in a bowl. Add pork, massage well, and marinate for 30 minutes.

2. Prepare rice powder: Toast rice flour in a dry pan over low heat until fragrant (2-3 minutes). Let it cool, then mix with 1 tbsp sesame oil.

3. Coat the pork: Add rice powder to the marinated pork, ensuring each slice is evenly coated. Let it sit for 15 minutes.

4. Steam: Place pork in a heatproof dish. Steam over high heat for 45-60 minutes until the meat is fork-tender.

5. Serve: Garnish with scallions/cilantro. Enjoy with rice or steamed buns!

Tips: For extra flavor, add a few fermented black beans or a dash of chili oil to the marinade. Leftovers taste even better reheated the next day!
