How to Make Lion Bread: A Step-by-Step Guide

Lion bread, a fun and adorable bakery treat, is perfect for breakfast or afternoon tea. Here’s a simple guide to creating your own roaring lion-shaped bread.

Ingredients:

- 500g all-purpose flour

- 250ml warm milk

- 50g sugar

- 7g active dry yeast

- 1 egg

- 50g softened butter

- Pinch of salt

- Egg yolk for brushing

- Raisins or chocolate chips for eyes/nose

Steps:

1. Activate yeast: Mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 10 minutes until frothy.

2. Make dough: Combine flour, salt, egg, and yeast mixture. Knead for 10 minutes, then add butter and knead until smooth. Let rise in a warm place for 1 hour until doubled.

3. Shape the lion: Punch down dough. Divide into one large piece (body) and a smaller piece (head). Roll the body into an oval and place on a baking sheet. Shape the head into a circle and attach to the body. Use extra dough to roll small strips for the mane, circling the head.

4. Add details: Press raisins for eyes and nose, and use a small piece of dough for the mouth. Brush with egg yolk for a golden finish.

5. Bake: Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown. Cool before serving.
