Sichuan bei loquat cream

How to Make Chuanbei Pipa Glycerin: A Comprehensive Guide

Chuanbei Pipa Glycerin, a renowned traditional Chinese remedy, is cherished for its soothing effects on coughs and sore throats. Making it at home allows customization of ingredients while preserving its natural healing properties. Here’s a detailed guide.

Ingredients: 15g dried Fritillaria bulb (Chuanbei), 100g loquat leaves (Pipa), 150g rock sugar, 30g honey, and 500ml water. Optional additions: 10g tangerine peel for enhanced aroma or 5g licorice root to balance flavors.

Steps:

1. Prepare Ingredients: Soak Chuanbei in warm water for 30 minutes until soft. Loquat leaves should be washed, and their backs scraped (to reduce bitterness) before cutting into strips.

2. Cook the Base: Combine Chuanbei, loquat leaves, and water in a pot. Bring to a boil, then simmer on low heat for 40 minutes until the liquid reduces to 200ml. Strain the liquid, reserving the liquid and discarding solids.

3. Add Sweeteners: Return the strained liquid to the pot. Add rock sugar and stir over low heat until fully dissolved. Let it simmer for another 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

4. Finish with Honey: Remove from heat and let it cool slightly (below 60°C to preserve honey’s nutrients). Stir in honey until well combined.

5. Store: Pour the mixture into a clean, airtight bottle. Refrigerate for up to 3 months.

Usage: Take 1-2 teaspoons 2-3 times daily. For children, reduce the dosage by half. Enjoy the natural, homemade remedy to relieve respiratory discomfort!
