How to Make Oyster Sauce Braised Tofu: A Simple Guide

Oyster sauce braised tofu is a quick, flavorful dish that’s tender, savory, and perfect with rice. Here’s a simple yet delicious method to make it at home.

Ingredients:

- 1 block (350g) firm tofu, cubed

- 2 tbsp cooking oil

- 2 cloves garlic, minced

- 1 tbsp oyster sauce

- 1 tsp light soy sauce

- ½ tsp sugar

- ½ cup water or vegetable broth

- 1 green onion, chopped (for garnish)

- Sesame seeds (optional)

Steps:

1. Prep the tofu: Pat the tofu cubes dry with a paper towel to prevent oil splattering.

2. Sear the tofu: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add tofu and cook until golden brown on all sides (about 5-7 minutes). Remove and set aside.

3. Make the sauce: In the same pan, sauté garlic until fragrant (30 seconds). Return tofu to the pan, then add oyster sauce, light soy sauce, sugar, and water/broth.

4. Simmer: Gently stir, cover, and let it simmer for 3-4 minutes, allowing the tofu to absorb the flavors.

5. Finish: Uncover, cook for 1 more minute to thicken the sauce slightly. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.

Serve hot with steamed rice for a comforting meal. For extra protein, add minced pork or shrimp in Step 3. Enjoy this umami-rich dish in under 20 minutes!
