How to Make Carrot Roses: A Step-by-Step Guide

Carrot roses are a simple yet elegant way to add a decorative touch to dishes, from salads to platters. Made with just carrots and a knife, they’re beginner-friendly and visually stunning. Here’s how to create them:

Step 1: Choose the Right Carrot

Select long, straight carrots with a uniform diameter. Medium-sized carrots work best—too thick may be hard to roll, too thin might break.

Step 2: Peel and Slice

Peel the carrot, then cut off both ends. Slice it into thin, even rounds (about 2-3mm thick). For a natural curve, aim for slices that are thicker at the center and thinner at the edges.

Step 3: Soften the Slices

Blanch the carrot slices in boiling water for 1-2 minutes until slightly pliable. Immediately transfer to ice water to stop cooking. This makes them flexible for rolling.

Step 4: Shape the Roses

Take one slice and roll it tightly from the center outward, like a jelly roll. Secure the end by tucking it into the roll. For a fuller rose, wrap additional slices around the center, overlapping slightly.

Step 5: Chill and Serve

Refrigerate the roses for 30 minutes to set. They can be used as garnishes for salads, appetizers, or main dishes. For extra color, blanch carrots in beet juice for pink roses or turmeric for yellow ones.

With practice, you’ll create uniform, beautiful roses that elevate any dish effortlessly!
