Spicy Flower Bun Recipe Guide

Spicy flower buns, a delightful twist on traditional steamed buns, combine soft, fluffy textures with a fiery, aromatic kick. Here’s a simple yet delicious recipe to recreate them at home.

Ingredients:

- 500g all-purpose flour

- 2 tsp instant yeast, 1 tsp sugar, 250ml warm water

- 1 tsp salt, 2 tbsp oil

- For the spicy filling: 3 tbsp chili flakes, 1 tbsp Sichuan peppercorn powder, 1 tbsp minced garlic, 1 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tbsp sesame oil, chopped scallions.

Steps:

1. Prepare the dough: Mix flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Gradually add warm water and oil, knead into a smooth dough. Let it rise for 1 hour until doubled.

2. Make the filling: Combine chili flakes, peppercorn powder, garlic, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Adjust spiciness to taste.

3. Shape the buns: Roll the dough into a 1cm thick sheet. Spread the filling evenly, leaving edges clean. Cut the sheet into strips, then twist and fold each strip into a flower shape.

4. Steam: Place buns on parchment-lined steamer trays. Let them rest for 15 minutes, then steam over high heat for 15-20 minutes.

Tips: For extra flavor, brush the buns with garlic oil after steaming. Serve hot with chili oil or yogurt dip to balance the heat. These buns are perfect as a snack or side dish, offering a satisfying crunch and warmth. Enjoy your homemade spicy flower buns!
