Pork Rib and Pumpkin Stew: A Step-by-Step Guide

Pork rib and pumpkin stew is a hearty, nutritious dish perfect for autumn. Here’s a simple yet delicious recipe to guide you.

Ingredients: 500g pork ribs, 1 medium pumpkin, 3 slices ginger, 2 garlic cloves, 1 carrot, 1 potato, salt, soy sauce, cooking wine, and a pinch of five-spice powder.

Steps:

1. Prep the ribs: Rinse ribs, cut into 3-4 cm pieces. Blanch in boiling water with cooking wine for 5 minutes, then drain.

2. Hollow the pumpkin: Cut the top off the pumpkin, remove seeds, and scrape the inside to create a “pot.”

3. Sauté aromatics: Heat oil in a pan, stir-fry ginger, garlic, and blanched ribs until fragrant. Add soy sauce and five-spice powder.

4. Assemble: Place sautéed ribs, carrot, and potato into the pumpkin hollow. Pour in 200ml hot water.

5. Steam: Cover the pumpkin with its top. Steam in a pot over medium heat for 1.5 hours, or until the ribs are tender and the pumpkin is soft.

6. Season: Add salt to taste. Serve the stew with pumpkin scooped from the pot, allowing the natural sweetness to blend with the savory ribs.

This dish combines the umami of pork ribs with the pumpkin’s subtle sweetness, making it a comforting meal for all ages. Enjoy the rich flavors and nourishing warmth in every bite!
