How to Stir-Fry Shredded Lettuce: A Simple Guide

Stir-fried shredded lettuce is a quick, healthy, and versatile dish that highlights the vegetable’s crisp texture and fresh flavor. Here’s a simple guide to making it perfectly.

Ingredients: 1 fresh lettuce (choose crisp, firm stalks), 2 cloves garlic (minced), 1 tbsp cooking oil, 1 tsp light soy sauce, ½ tsp salt, ½ tsp sugar (optional), and a pinch of white pepper.

Steps:

1. Prepare the lettuce: Trim the base of the lettuce, then peel off tough outer leaves. Wash thoroughly and pat dry. Cut the stalks into thin, uniform shreds (about 2-3 inches long).

2. Season the wok: Heat oil over high heat in a wok or large skillet. Add minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant (10-15 seconds)—avoid browning to prevent bitterness.

3. Stir-fry: Toss in the shredded lettuce and stir-fry rapidly for 1-2 minutes until the lettuce wilts slightly but remains crisp. Add light soy sauce, salt, sugar, and white pepper. Mix well.

4. Serve: Remove from heat immediately. Transfer to a plate and serve hot with steamed rice or as a side dish.

Tips: For extra flavor, a dash of sesame oil or a pinch of chili flakes can be added. Avoid overcooking to retain the lettuce’s crunch. This dish is best enjoyed fresh!
