How to Make Classic Beef and Radish Soup

Beef and radish soup is a nourishing dish loved for its simplicity and rich flavors. Here’s a detailed guide to making it perfectly.

Ingredients: 500g beef chuck (cut into 2-inch cubes), 1 large white radish (peeled and sliced), 1 onion (chopped), 3 garlic cloves (minced), 1 tbsp ginger (grated), 6 cups beef broth, 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp salt, ½ tsp pepper, 2 star anise, and a handful of cilantro for garnish.

Steps:

1. Prepare the beef: Soak beef cubes in cold water for 30 minutes to remove excess blood. Drain and pat dry.

2. Sear the beef: Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pot over medium-high heat. Add beef and sear until browned on all sides. Remove and set aside.

3. Sauté aromatics: In the same pot, sauté onion, garlic, and ginger until fragrant (about 2 minutes). Return beef to the pot.

4. Simmer: Pour in beef broth, add star anise, soy sauce, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 1.5 hours until beef is tender.

5. Add radish: Add radish slices and simmer for 20–30 more minutes until radish is soft and translucent.

6. Finish: Adjust seasoning, garnish with cilantro, and serve hot with steamed rice.

Tips: For a deeper flavor, marinate beef in soy sauce and ginger for 30 minutes before searing. Choose fresh, firm radish for a crisp-tender texture. This soup is hearty, healthy, and perfect for cold days!
