How to Make Sweet Potato Balls: A Complete Guide

Sweet potato balls, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, are a beloved snack worldwide. Here’s a simple guide to making them at home.

Ingredients: 500g sweet potatoes, 100g glutinous rice flour, 50g all-purpose flour, 50g sugar (adjust to taste), 1 tsp vanilla extract, and oil for frying.

Steps:

1. Prepare the sweet potatoes: Peel and dice the sweet potatoes, then steam or boil until tender (about 20 minutes). Mash them into a smooth puree.

2. Mix the dough: Combine the mashed sweet potatoes, glutinous rice flour, all-purpose flour, sugar, and vanilla extract. Knead into a soft dough. If too dry, add a little water; if too sticky, add more flour.

3. Shape the balls: Pinch small portions of the dough (about 2-3cm in diameter) and roll them into balls. For extra flavor, wrap in a piece of peanut or red bean paste before shaping.

4. Fry until golden: Heat oil in a deep pot to 170°C. Fry the balls in batches for 3-4 minutes, turning occasionally, until they puff up and turn golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Serving suggestions: Enjoy them warm as a snack or dessert. For a healthier twist, bake at 180°C for 20 minutes instead of frying.

These sweet potato balls are versatile, delicious, and perfect for sharing!
