Easy Sushi Recipes: A Beginner’s Guide

Making sushi at home is simpler than you think! Here’s a quick guide to three beginner-friendly types: California Rolls, Temaki Hand Rolls, and Onigiri Rice Balls.

California Rolls are perfect for starters. You’ll need sushi rice (seasoned with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt), nori (seaweed sheets), cucumber, avocado, and crab sticks. Place a nori sheet on a bamboo mat, spread rice evenly, leaving a 1-inch border at the top. Arrange fillings in the center, then roll tightly using the mat. Slice into 8 pieces with a wet knife.

Temaki Hand Rolls require no rolling skills. Cut nori into quarters, place a small scoop of rice on one corner, add fillings like tuna or pickled radish, then fold into a cone shape. Eat immediately for the best crunch!

Onigiri Rice Balls are the easiest. Wet your hands to prevent sticking, shape sushi rice into triangles, and fill with a dot of umeboshi (pickled plum) or tuna mayo. Wrap with nori strips for extra flavor.

With fresh ingredients and a little practice, you’ll enjoy homemade sushi in no time!
