How to Make Braised Shiitake Mushrooms with Bok Choy

Braised shiitake mushrooms with bok choy is a nutritious and delicious Chinese dish that balances umami flavors and crisp-tender textures. Here’s a simple yet flavorful recipe to guide you.

Ingredients:

- 200g fresh shiitake mushrooms, stems removed

- 300g bok choy, washed and halved

- 2 cloves garlic, minced

- 1 tbsp soy sauce

- 1 tsp oyster sauce

- ½ tsp sugar

- 1 tbsp cooking oil

- Salt to taste

- Optional: 1 tsp sesame oil for garnish

Steps:

1. Prepare the vegetables: Soak shiitake mushrooms in warm water for 20 minutes until soft, then slice. Pat bok choy dry.

2. Sauté the mushrooms: Heat oil in a wok over medium heat. Add garlic and stir-fry until fragrant. Add mushrooms and cook for 3–4 minutes until golden.

3. Season and braise: Pour in soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sugar. Mix well, then add 2 tablespoons of water. Cover and simmer for 2 minutes.

4. Cook the bok choy: Place bok choy in the wok, turning to coat in the sauce. Stir-fry for 2–3 minutes until wilted but still crisp.

5. Finish: Adjust salt if needed. Drizzle with sesame oil before serving.

Tips: For extra richness, add a pinch of cornstarch mixed with water to thicken the sauce. Serve hot with steamed rice for a complete meal. This dish is quick, healthy, and packed with umami goodness!
