How to Make Spicy Cabbage Salad: A Simple Guide

Spicy cabbage salad, or *qiangban baicai* in Chinese, is a quick, crunchy, and flavorful dish loved for its bold flavors and ease. Here’s a simple guide to making it at home.

Ingredients:

- 1 medium cabbage (shredded)

- 2-3 garlic cloves (minced)

- 1-2 dried chili peppers (sliced, adjust to taste)

- 2 tbsp soy sauce

- 1 tbsp black vinegar

- 1 tsp sugar

- 1 tbsp vegetable oil

- Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Steps:

1. Prepare the cabbage: Thinly slice the cabbage, then soak it in cold water for 10 minutes to keep it crisp. Drain thoroughly and set aside.

2. Make the sauce: In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, black vinegar, and sugar until the sugar dissolves.

3. Heat the oil: Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Add dried chili peppers and minced garlic, stir-frying for 30 seconds until fragrant (be careful not to burn the garlic).

4. Combine: Pour the hot oil and chili-garlic mixture over the shredded cabbage. Add the sauce and toss well to coat every leaf evenly.

5. Serve: Let it sit for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld, then garnish with sesame seeds if desired. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

This dish is a perfect side for rice or noodles, offering a refreshing kick with minimal effort. Enjoy!
