How to Make Braised Mushrooms and Tofu: A Step-by-Step Guide

Braised mushrooms and tofu is a comforting, umami-rich dish that’s easy to prepare and perfect for any meal. Here’s a simple yet delicious recipe to guide you.

Ingredients:

- 200g firm tofu, cubed

- 150g shiitake mushrooms, stems removed and sliced

- 2 cloves garlic, minced

- 1 tbsp soy sauce

- 1 tsp oyster sauce (optional for extra depth)

- 1 cup vegetable broth

- 1 tsp sugar

- 1 tbsp vegetable oil

- Sesame seeds and green onions for garnish

Steps:

1. Prep the tofu: Press the tofu cubes for 10 minutes to remove excess water, then pan-fry in oil until golden on all sides. Set aside.

2. Sauté the mushrooms: In the same pan, heat oil and sauté garlic until fragrant. Add mushrooms and cook until tender.

3. Simmer together: Return the tofu to the pan. Add soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and broth. Bring to a gentle simmer, then cover and cook for 5–7 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.

4. Thicken the sauce: If desired, mix 1 tsp cornstarch with 2 tbsp water and stir into the sauce to thicken. Simmer for 1 more minute.

5. Serve: Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Enjoy hot with steamed rice!

This versatile dish can be customized with other vegetables like bell peppers or carrots. Its soft tofu and meaty mushrooms create a satisfying, protein-packed meal in under 30 minutes.
