How to Make Homemade Stir-Fried Rice Noodles: A Simple Guide

Stir-fried rice noodles, or "chow fun," are a beloved comfort dish worldwide. Here’s a basic guide to crafting this flavorful meal at home.

Ingredients:

- 200g rice noodles (dried or fresh)

- 2 tbsp cooking oil

- 3 cloves garlic (minced)

- 1 onion (sliced)

- 100g protein (shrimp, chicken, or tofu, cubed)

- 2 cups mixed vegetables (bell peppers, beansprouts, carrots)

- 3 tbsp soy sauce

- 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)

- 1 tsp sugar

- Salt to taste

- Green onions (for garnish)

Steps:

1. Prepare the noodles: Soak dried rice noodles in warm water for 30 minutes until soft. Drain and set aside. Fresh noodles can be used directly.

2. Cook the protein: Heat oil in a wok over high heat. Stir-fry shrimp/chicken/tofu until golden. Remove and set aside.

3. Sauté aromatics: Add garlic and onion to the wok. Stir-fry until fragrant (30 seconds).

4. Stir-fry vegetables: Toss in mixed vegetables. Cook for 2-3 minutes until crisp-tender.

5. Combine: Return protein to the wok. Add noodles, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sugar. Toss everything together for 2-3 minutes, ensuring noodles are evenly coated.

6. Season: Add salt to taste. Garnish with green onions before serving.

Tips: For smoky flavor, use a smoking-hot wok ("wok hei"). Adjust sauces based on preference—add chili for heat or a splash of rice vinegar for tang. Enjoy this quick, customizable dish with family!
