How to Make Stir-Fried Loofah: A Simple Guide

Stir-fried loofah is a light, nutritious, and easy-to-make dish popular in Asian cuisine. Here’s a simple guide to preparing it.

First, gather fresh loofah, garlic, salt, and a cooking oil like vegetable or peanut oil. Choose young, tender loofah for a better texture—its skin should be soft and green without blemishes.

Start by washing the loofah thoroughly. Peel it lightly (you can leave some skin for extra nutrients) and cut it into half-moons, about 1 cm thick. Mince 2-3 cloves of garlic.

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and stir-fry for 10-15 seconds until fragrant—be careful not to burn it. Toss in the loofah pieces and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes. If the wok gets too dry, add a tablespoon of water to prevent sticking.

Season with ½ teaspoon of salt (or to taste) and continue stir-frying for another 2-3 minutes, until the loofah turns tender-crisp. Avoid overcooking, as it becomes mushy.

For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of white pepper or a dash of light soy sauce. Serve hot as a side dish with rice or noodles.

This dish highlights loofah’s natural sweetness and crispness, making it a healthy addition to any meal. Enjoy your homemade stir-fried loofah!
