Red bean sweet buns, with their soft texture and sweet filling, are a beloved treat. Here’s an easy recipe to make them at home.
Ingredients: For the dough, you’ll need 300g all-purpose flour, 3g active dry yeast, 30g sugar, 1 egg, 120ml warm milk, 30g butter, and a pinch of salt. For the filling, prepare 200g cooked red beans, mashed with 2 tablespoons of sugar (adjust to taste).
Steps:
1. Activate yeast: Mix yeast with 1 teaspoon of sugar and warm milk; let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
2. Make dough: Combine flour, sugar, salt, and egg in a bowl. Pour in the yeast mixture and knead into a smooth dough. Add softened butter and knead until elastic (about 10 minutes).
3. First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1–1.5 hours until doubled in size.
4. Shape buns: Punch down the dough and divide into 8–10 equal portions. Flatten each, add a spoonful of red bean filling, and seal tightly. Place on a baking sheet.
5. Second rise: Cover and let rise for 30 minutes. Brush with milk or egg wash for a golden finish.
6. Bake: Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake for 15–18 minutes until golden. Cool slightly before enjoying.
These buns are best served warm. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Enjoy your homemade treat!
