A Guide to Making Sesame Seed Bread Rolls

Sesame seed bread rolls are a delightful, versatile treat, perfect for breakfast, snacks, or sandwiches. Here’s a simple yet comprehensive guide to crafting these golden, nutty rolls at home.

Ingredients: For 12 rolls, you’ll need 3½ cups (440g) all-purpose flour, 1¼ cups (300ml) warm milk, 2¼ tsp (7g) active dry yeast, ¼ cup (50g) sugar, 1 tsp salt, 2 large eggs, ½ cup (115g) softened butter, and 2 tbsp sesame seeds for coating.

Steps:

1. Activate yeast: Mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.

2. Prepare dough: In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add activated yeast mixture, eggs, and softened butter. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

3. First rise: Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

4. Shape rolls: Punch down dough, divide into 12 equal pieces, and roll each into a ball. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

5. Second rise: Cover rolls and let rise for 30–45 minutes until puffy.

6. Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush rolls with egg wash, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and bake for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.

Tips: For extra flavor, add a pinch of garlic powder or herbs to the dough. Serve warm with butter or jam. Enjoy your homemade sesame seed rolls!
