How to Make Honey Twists: A Complete Guide

Honey twists, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, are a beloved snack. Here’s a simple guide to making them at home.

Start with the dough: Mix 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 tsp baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Rub in 3 tbsp softened butter until crumbly, then add 1 tbsp honey, 1 egg, and 5-6 tbsp milk to form a soft dough. Knead briefly, wrap in plastic, and rest for 30 minutes.

Roll the dough into a 1cm thick sheet, cut into 2cm strips, and twist each strip into a spiral. Heat oil to 160°C, fry twists in batches for 3-4 minutes until golden. Drain on paper towels.

For the glaze: Simmer 4 tbsp honey, 1 tbsp water, and a squeeze of lemon juice for 2 minutes. Brush the warm twists with the glaze and sprinkle with sesame seeds or nuts. Let them cool completely—the honey coating hardens to a delightful crunch.

Store in an airtight container for up to a week. Enjoy these sweet, savory treats with tea or as a snack!
