How to Make Sweet and Sour Fish: A Step-by-Step Guide

Sweet and sour fish is a beloved dish known for its crispy texture and tangy-sweet sauce. Here’s a simple guide to making it at home.

Ingredients: 500g white fish (like cod or tillet), 2 eggs, 1 cup flour, 2 tbsp cornstarch, 1 cup sugar, ½ cup vinegar, 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tomato, 1 bell pepper, 3 garlic cloves, ginger, and oil for frying.

Steps:

1. Prepare the fish: Clean and slice the fish into 1-inch thick fillets. Marinate with salt, pepper, and ginger for 15 minutes.

2. Make the batter: Mix eggs, flour, and cornstarch with water until smooth. Dip fish fillets into the batter, coating evenly.

3. Deep-fry: Heat oil to 180°C. Fry the fish until golden brown and crispy (about 3-4 minutes per side). Drain excess oil.

4. Prepare the sauce: In a pan, heat 1 tbsp oil, sauté garlic and ginger. Add sugar, vinegar, soy sauce, and a splash of water. Simmer until thick.

5. Stir-fry veggies: Add diced tomato and bell pepper to the sauce, cook for 2 minutes.

6. Combine: Pour the sauce over the fried fish, garnish with sesame seeds, and serve hot with rice.

Tips: For extra crispiness, double-fry the fish. Adjust the sauce’s sweetness or sourness to taste. Enjoy this restaurant-quality dish at home!
