Colorful tangyuan, vibrant symbols of joy, are easy to make at home. Here’s a simple guide to crafting these delightful dumplings in multiple hues.
Ingredients:
For the dough: 200g glutinous rice flour, 100ml warm water, natural food colorings (matcha powder for green, beetroot juice for red, purple sweet potato paste for purple, etc.). For fillings: Choices like black sesame paste, peanut butter, or red bean paste.
Steps:
1. Prepare colored dough: Divide the rice flour into equal parts. In each part, mix a natural coloring with a little water to form a smooth, colorful dough. Knead until elastic, then let rest for 15 minutes.
2. Make fillings: Roll filling into small balls (about 1cm diameter).
3. Shape tangyuan: Take a colored dough portion, flatten it, wrap a filling ball inside, and seal tightly. Roll into a smooth ball. Repeat with all colors.
4. Cook: Bring water to a boil in a pot. Add tangyuan and cook until they float (about 5-7 minutes). Stir gently to prevent sticking.
5. Serve: Enjoy in hot ginger syrup or plain with a touch of sugar.
These colorful treats not only please the eye but also bring warmth to any gathering. Experiment with colors and fillings to create your own festive recipes!
