Golden Sand Tofu: A Culinary Guide

Golden Sand Tofu, a beloved Chinese dish, delights with its crispy exterior and silky interior, often paired with a savory-sweet sauce. Here’s a simple guide to crafting this restaurant-quality treat at home.

Ingredients: Firm tofu (1 block), cornstarch (½ cup), egg (1), salt (½ tsp), oil (for frying), and your choice of sauce (e.g., sweet and sour, garlic, or spicy).

Steps:

1. Prep the Tofu: Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess water. Cut into 1-inch cubes.

2. Coat Evenly: Beat the egg with salt. Dip tofu cubes in the egg mixture, then roll thoroughly in cornstarch until fully coated.

3. Deep Fry: Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry tofu in batches for 3-4 minutes until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.

4. Sauce & Serve: Toss hot tofu with your preferred sauce (e.g., mix soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, and chili for sweet and sour). Garnish with sesame seeds or scallions.

Tips: For extra crunch, double-coat the tofu. Adjust frying time for softer or crispier results. Serve immediately to enjoy the perfect contrast of textures. This versatile dish suits both casual meals and festive feasts!
