How to Make Sausage Rolls: A Comprehensive Guide

Sausage rolls are a beloved savory snack, perfect for parties or casual meals. Here’s a simple yet delicious recipe to guide you.

Ingredients: For the pastry, you’ll need 500g puff pastry (store-bought or homemade), 1 egg (for washing), and sesame seeds (optional). For the filling, mix 400g ground pork (or chicken), 1 small finely chopped onion, 2 cloves minced garlic, 1 tsp dried herbs (thyme or parsley), 1 tsp mustard, salt, and pepper to taste.

Steps:

1. Prepare the filling: Sauté the onion and garlic until soft. Mix with ground meat, herbs, mustard, and seasonings. Cook until the meat is browned; let it cool.

2. Roll the pastry: Defrost puff pastry and roll it into a rectangle. Cut it into long strips (about 10cm wide).

3. Assemble: Place a spoonful of filling along the center of each strip. Fold the pastry over to encase the filling, pressing the edges to seal. Cut into individual rolls (about 10-12cm long).

4. Bake: Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Brush the rolls with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and crisp.

Tips: For extra flavor, add grated cheese to the filling. Serve hot with ketchup or mustard. Enjoy your homemade sausage rolls!
