How to Make Crown Bread: A Simple Guide

Crown bread, a visually stunning and delicious treat, is perfect for holidays or special occasions. This soft, golden bread, shaped like a royal crown, combines a fluffy texture with a hint of sweetness. Here’s a step-by-step guide to making it at home.

Ingredients: You’ll need 500g all-purpose flour, 7g active dry yeast, 50g sugar, 5g salt, 2 eggs, 120ml warm milk, 100ml unsalted butter (melted), and 1 egg yolk for glazing.

Steps:

1. Activate Yeast: Mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 10 minutes until frothy.

2. Prepare Dough: In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add eggs, yeast mixture, and melted butter. Knead for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

3. First Rise: Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours until doubled.

4. Shape the Crown: Punch down dough, divide into 8 equal balls. Roll each into a 25cm rope, braid two ropes together, and coil into a circle. Repeat with remaining dough.

5. Second Rise: Place crowns on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes. Brush with egg yolk.

6. Bake: Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.

Tips: For extra flavor, add vanilla extract or raisins. Serve warm with butter or jam. Enjoy your homemade crown bread!
