How to Make Stir-Fried Pork Belly with Tofu Skin

Stir-fried pork belly with tofu skin is a savory, satisfying dish that balances rich, meaty flavors with chewy, umami-packed textures. Here’s a simple yet delicious recipe to recreate it at home.

Ingredients:

200g pork belly, sliced into thin strips (about 2cm thick), 150g tofu skin (yuba), soaked in warm water until soft then sliced into strips, 2 cloves garlic (minced), 1 red chili (sliced, optional), 1 green onion (chopped), 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp dark soy sauce, 1 tsp sugar, 1/2 tsp five-spice powder, 1 tbsp cooking oil, and a pinch of white pepper.

Steps:

1. Prep the pork: Marinate sliced pork belly with 1 tsp soy sauce, 1/2 tsp sugar, and a pinch of white pepper for 15 minutes.

2. Blanch tofu skin: Boil tofu skin strips for 1 minute, drain, and set aside to remove excess oil.

3. Stir-fry: Heat oil in a wok over medium-high. Add pork belly and cook until golden and slightly crispy (3–4 minutes). Remove excess oil if needed.

4. Aromatics: Return 1 tbsp oil to the wok. Sauté garlic and chili until fragrant (30 seconds). Add tofu skin, stir-frying for 1 minute.

5. Season: Mix in remaining soy sauce, dark soy sauce, sugar, and five-spice powder. Toss everything together until well-coated (1–2 minutes).

6. Finish: Garnish with green onions, serve hot with steamed rice.

Tip: For extra flavor, blanch pork belly briefly in boiling water before stir-frying to reduce greasiness. Adjust spice levels to taste!
