How to Make Braised Beef and Radish Soup: A Comprehensive Guide

Braised Beef and Radish Soup is a comforting, hearty dish loved for its tender beef, flavorful broth, and melt-in-your-mouth radish. Here’s a step-by-step guide to perfecting it.

Ingredients: 500g beef brisket (or chuck), 1 large white radish, 3-4 dried chili peppers, 1 cinnamon stick, 3 star anise, 1 sliced ginger, 3 cloves minced garlic, 2 tbsp light soy sauce, 1 tbsp dark soy sauce, 1 tbsp cooking wine, salt to taste, and water.

Steps:

1. Prep the beef: Rinse beef, cut into 2-inch cubes, and blanch in boiling water for 5 minutes. Remove, drain, and set aside.

2. Prep the radish: Peel and cut radish into thick wedges. Blanch briefly to remove bitterness, then drain.

3. Sauté aromatics: Heat oil in a pot. Sauté ginger, garlic, and dried chilies until fragrant. Add beef, stir-fry until lightly browned.

4. Simmer: Pour in cooking wine, light/dark soy sauce, and water to cover the beef. Add cinnamon and star anise. Bring to a boil, then simmer on low heat for 1.5 hours.

5. Add radish: Toss in radish wedges. Simmer for another 30–40 minutes until beef is tender and radish is translucent.

6. Season: Adjust salt to taste. Serve hot with rice.

Tips: For richer flavor, use beef bone broth. Marinate beef overnight for extra tenderness. Enjoy this warming soup on cold days!
