How to Make Hearty Braised Pork with Potatoes

Braised pork with potatoes is a comforting, one-pot dish that’s beloved for its tender meat, creamy potatoes, and rich sauce. Here’s a simple yet delicious recipe to recreate it at home.

Ingredients: 500g pork belly (cut into 2cm cubes), 3 potatoes (peeled and halved), 1 onion (sliced), 2 cloves garlic (minced), 3 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tbsp oyster sauce, 1 tbsp sugar, 1 cup water, 1 star anise, and cooking oil.

Steps:

1. Sear the pork: Heat oil in a pot over medium-high heat. Add pork cubes and sear until golden brown on all sides. Remove and set aside.

2. Sauté aromatics: In the same pot, sauté onion and garlic until fragrant. Return pork to the pot, then add soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sugar. Stir to coat the meat evenly.

3. Simmer: Pour in water and add the star anise. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes.

4. Add potatoes: Place potato halves among the pork. Cover and simmer for another 15–20 minutes, until potatoes are tender and the sauce thickens.

5. Serve: Discard the star anise. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve hot with steamed rice.

Tips: For extra flavor, marinate the pork in soy sauce and ginger for 30 minutes before cooking. You can also carrots or mushrooms for added texture. This dish tastes even better the next day as the flavors meld further! Enjoy this hearty, satisfying meal that’s perfect for any season.
