A Simple Guide to Making Two-Color Cookies

Two-color cookies are a delightful treat, loved for their vibrant appearance and buttery flavor. Here’s a basic guide to making them at home.

Start with the dough: In a bowl, cream 1 cup of softened butter with 1/2 cup each of granulated and brown sugar until fluffy. Beat in 2 eggs and 2 teaspoons of vanilla. Gradually mix in 3 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt until a smooth dough forms.

Divide the dough into two equal portions. Add food coloring to one batch—gel works best for bright hues—kneading until evenly colored. Leave the other batch plain (or use a different color).

Shape the dough: Roll each portion into a 1-inch thick log. Twist the two logs together gently, then slice into 1/2-inch rounds. For a marbled effect, knead small pieces of each color together briefly before rolling.

Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10–12 minutes until edges are golden. Cool on a wire rack. Decorate with icing or sprinkles if desired. These cookies are perfect for holidays, parties, or a fun baking activity with kids!
