How to Make Tofu Balls: A Comprehensive Guide

Tofu balls, a versatile and delicious dish, are loved for their soft texture and ability to absorb flavors. Here’s a simple guide to making them at home.

Ingredients: 300g soft tofu, 50g minced pork (optional), 1 egg, 2 tbsp starch, 1 scallion (chopped), 1 tsp soy sauce, salt, pepper, and oil for frying.

Steps:

1. Prepare the mixture: Crumble tofu into a bowl. Add minced pork, egg, starch, soy sauce, salt, pepper, and scallions. Mix thoroughly until sticky.

2. Shape the balls: Wet your hands to prevent sticking. Scoop a tablespoon of the mixture, roll it into a 1.5-inch ball, and place it on a plate.

3. Cook the balls:

- Pan-fry: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry balls until golden brown (3-4 minutes per side).

- Boil: Bring water to a simmer. Drop balls in and cook for 5-7 minutes until they float.

- Steam: Place balls on a greased steamer tray. Steam for 10-12 minutes.

4. Serve: Pan-fried balls pair well with sweet chili sauce; boiled/steamed ones suit soups or stir-fries.

Tips: For extra flavor, add ginger or mushrooms to the mixture. Ensure the mixture is firm enough to hold shape—add more starch if needed. Enjoy these healthy, customizable tofu balls as a snack or main dish!
