Water bamboo, with its crisp texture and mild flavor, is a versatile vegetable that pairs beautifully with oyster sauce. Here’s a simple yet delicious recipe to elevate your dish.
Ingredients: Fresh water bamboo (300g), oyster sauce (2 tbsp), minced garlic (1 tsp), soy sauce (1 tsp), sugar (½ tsp), cooking oil (2 tbsp), sesame oil (a few drops), and chopped green onions for garnish.
Steps:
1. Prep the Water Bamboo: Peel the outer skin of the water bamboo, trim the ends, and cut into 1-inch thick slices or bite-sized pieces. Blanch them in boiling water for 2–3 minutes until slightly tender. Drain and set aside.
2. Sauté Aromatics: Heat oil in a wok or pan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant (about 30 seconds).
3. Cook the Dish: Add the blanched water bamboo to the wok. Pour in oyster sauce, soy sauce, and sugar. Stir-fry for 1–2 minutes, ensuring the bamboo is evenly coated. If the pan is too dry, add a tablespoon of water to prevent sticking.
4. Finish and Serve: Drizzle with sesame oil, sprinkle with chopped green onions, and toss quickly. Remove from heat and transfer to a plate.
Tips: For extra flavor, you can also add sliced bell peppers or carrots. Serve hot as a side dish with rice or noodles. This quick stir-fry highlights the natural sweetness of the water bamboo while the oyster sauce adds a rich, savory umami touch. Enjoy!
