Spicy Beef Sauce: A Culinary Guide

Spicy beef sauce, a versatile and flavorful condiment, elevates dishes from noodles to rice, grilled meats, and even vegetables. Here’s a simple yet delicious recipe to create this zesty sauce at home.

Ingredients:

500g beef (sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced), 3 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp oyster sauce, 2 tsp sugar, 1 tsp cornstarch, 4 tbsp cooking oil, 5 dried chilies (soaked and chopped), 3 garlic cloves (minced), 1 tbsp ginger (grated), 2 tbsp chili bean paste (doubanjiang), 1 tbsp Sichuan peppercorn powder, and sesame seeds for garnish.

Instructions:

1. Marinate the beef: Mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and cornstarch. Add beef, coat evenly, and marinate for 20 minutes.

2. Prepare the sauce: Heat oil in a wok. Stir-fry dried chilies, garlic, and ginger until fragrant. Add chili bean paste and Sichuan peppercorn powder, cook for 1 minute until oil turns red.

3. Cook the beef: Add marinated beef to the wok, stir-fry over high heat for 2–3 minutes until no longer pink.

4. Thicken the sauce: Pour in 2 tbsp water, simmer for 1 minute until the sauce thickens. Adjust seasoning with salt or sugar if needed.

5. Serve: Drizzle with sesame seeds, and enjoy with rice, noodles, or as a dipping sauce.

For variations, add crushed peanuts, scallions, or a dash of vinegar for tang. This sauce balances heat, umami, and depth, making it a staple in spicy cuisine lovers’ kitchens.
