Qingming Fruit recipe

How to Make Qingming Guo: A Complete Guide

Qingming Guo, a traditional Chinese snack for the Tomb-Sweeping Day, comes in two main types: savory with pickled vegetables and meat, or sweet with peanut and sesame filling. Here’s a simple guide to making both.

For the Skin:

Mix 200g glutinous rice flour with 100g wheat starch. Gradually add 150ml boiling water, stirring until a dough forms. Knead until smooth, then divide into small balls. Flatten each into a thin round wrapper.

Savory Version:

Prepare fillings with stir-fried diced pork, pickled mustard greens, and bamboo shoots. Place a spoonful of filling in the wrapper, fold it into a triangle or pouch shape, and seal the edges. Steam for 15 minutes.

Sweet Version:

Mix crushed peanuts, black sesame seeds, and sugar. Wrap the filling in the dough, shape it into a small bun, and press with a wooden mold for patterns. Steam for 10-12 minutes.

Serving Tips:

Serve hot with a drizzle of soy sauce or sesame oil for the savory type, or sprinkle with powdered sugar for the sweet one. Enjoy this chewy, flavorful treat that honors tradition and satisfies the taste buds!
