How to Make Hass Bread: A Simple Guide

Hass bread, a soft and fluffy homemade loaf, is beloved for its golden crust and tender crumb. Perfect for breakfast or sandwiches, it’s surprisingly easy to make. Here’s a basic recipe to get you started.

Ingredients:

- 500g all-purpose flour

- 7g active dry yeast

- 10g salt

- 300ml warm milk (about 35°C)

- 50g melted butter

- 2 tbsp sugar

Steps:

1. Activate yeast: Mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

2. Combine dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk flour and salt.

3. Mix dough: Pour the yeast mixture and melted butter into the flour. Stir until a shaggy dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

4. First rise: Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours, or until doubled in size.

5. Shape: Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan.

6. Second rise: Cover and let rise for another 45 minutes.

7. Bake: Preheat oven to 180°C. Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown. Tap the bottom—it should sound hollow. Cool before slicing.

Variations: Add herbs, cheese, or dried fruit for extra flavor. Enjoy your fresh, homemade hass bread!
