How to Make Braised Japanese Tofu: A Simple Guide

Braised Japanese Tofu, known for its silky texture and savory sauce, is a beloved home dish. Here’s an easy, step-by-step guide to perfect it.

Ingredients: 2 packs Japanese tofu (silken tofu), 2 tbsp oil, 3 minced garlic cloves, 1 sliced green onion, 2 tbsp light soy sauce, 1 tbsp oyster sauce, 1 tsp sugar, 1 cup water, and a pinch of white pepper.

Steps:

1. Prep: Gently cut tofu into 1-inch cubes. Pat dry with paper towels to prevent breaking.

2. Sauté: Heat oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Fry tofu cubes lightly until golden on all sides (about 2-3 minutes per side). Set aside.

3. Make Sauce: In the same pan, sauté garlic until fragrant. Add soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, water, and white pepper. Stir until sugar dissolves.

4. Simmer: Return tofu to the pan. Gently simmer for 3-4 minutes, occasionally spooning sauce over tofu to absorb flavor.

5. Serve: Turn off heat. Garnish with green onions. Pair with steamed rice for a comforting meal.

Tip: Handle tofu gently to keep its shape. For extra richness, add a beaten egg or a drizzle of sesame oil before serving. Enjoy this tender, flavorful dish in under 20 minutes!
