How to Make Si Wu Tang: A Classic Herbal Tonic

Si Wu Tang, or "Four-Substance Decoction," is a renowned herbal remedy in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) cherished for nourishing blood and regulating menstruation. Here’s a simple guide to preparing this healing tonic.

Ingredients:

- 15g Dang Gui (Angelica sinensis)

- 15g Shu Di Huang (Rehmannia root, processed)

- 15g Bai Shao (White peony root)

- 15g Chuan Xiong (Lovage root)

- 3 slices of fresh ginger (optional, for warming)

- 5 red dates (optional, for sweetness)

- 500ml water

Steps:

1. Prepare Herbs: Rinse all herbs (except ginger and dates) lightly under cold water. Soak Shu Di Huang for 30 minutes if using dried roots.

2. Cook: Combine all ingredients in a pot. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to low heat. Simmer uncovered for 40–60 minutes, until the liquid reduces by half.

3. Strain and Serve: Remove herbs with a strainer. Pour the warm decoction into a bowl and drink plain. For enhanced flavor, add a pinch of rock sugar.

Tips:

- Use ceramic or glass cookware to preserve herbal properties.

- Adjust herb quantities based on body constitution—consult a TCM practitioner if needed.

- Best consumed warm, twice daily (morning and evening), for 4–6 weeks.

Si Wu Tang is gentle yet effective, making it a staple for women’s health. Enjoy its natural nourishment!
