Homemade Tofu Stir-Fry: A Culinary Guide

Tofu stir-fry is a versatile and beloved dish, offering endless possibilities to suit diverse tastes. Here’s a simple guide to mastering it at home.

Start with firm or extra-firm tofu, pressed to remove excess moisture—this ensures a crispy texture. Cut into cubes or triangles. For flavor, marinate the tofu in soy sauce, a pinch of salt, and sesame oil for 10–15 minutes.

Heat oil in a wok or pan over medium-high heat. Sauté minced garlic and ginger until fragrant, then add marinated tofu. Stir-fry until golden brown, about 5–7 minutes. Remove tofu and set aside.

In the same pan, toss in your favorite vegetables—bell peppers, broccoli, or mushrooms work well. Stir-fry until crisp-tender. Return tofu to the pan, add a sauce of soy sauce, oyster sauce (optional), and a dash of sugar. Toss everything together and cook for 2–3 minutes.

Garnish with green onions or sesame seeds. Serve hot with rice or noodles. This basic recipe can be customized with chili for spice or tofu paste for richness, making it a quick, healthy, and delicious meal any day.
