How to Make Braised Chicken and Potatoes

Braised chicken and potatoes is a comforting, flavorful dish loved for its tender meat, soft potatoes, and savory sauce. Here’s a simple yet delicious recipe to guide you.

Ingredients:

- 2 chicken legs (drumsticks and thighs), washed and patted dry

- 3 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into 2-inch chunks

- 3 tbsp cooking oil

- 1 tbsp ginger (minced), 2 cloves garlic (minced)

- 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp oyster sauce, 1 tsp sugar

- 1 cup water or chicken broth

- Optional: 1 green onion (chopped), 1 tsp sesame oil for garnish

Steps:

1. Prep the chicken: Season the chicken legs with a pinch of salt and pepper. Let them marinate for 15 minutes.

2. Sear the chicken: Heat oil in a deep pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the chicken, skin-side down, and sear for 4-5 minutes until golden brown. Flip and sear the other side, then remove and set aside.

3. Sauté aromatics: In the same pot, add ginger and garlic. Stir-fry for 30 seconds until fragrant.

4. Cook potatoes: Add the potato chunks and stir to coat in the oil. Cook for 5 minutes, then return the chicken to the pot.

5. Braise: Mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and water/broth. Pour over the chicken and potatoes. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 25–30 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and potatoes are tender.

6. Finish: Uncover and increase heat slightly to thicken the sauce (1–2 minutes). Garnish with green onions and a drizzle of sesame oil. Serve hot with rice!

This dish balances rich flavors with easy steps, making it perfect for weeknight dinners. Enjoy your homemade braised chicken and potatoes!
